No agenda, no hold: prune two meetings now
Your calendar is full of meetings that exist because nobody cancelled them. Eight minutes is enough to challenge two of them: ask for an agenda or release the hold.
Your calendar is full of meetings that exist because nobody cancelled them. Eight minutes is enough to challenge two of them: ask for an agenda or release the hold.
This is not a productivity sermon. It is two concrete calendar edits before the next block starts.
When to use it
- You see two upcoming meetings with no agenda and no clear decision.
- You have permission to decline or ask for purpose.
- You can spare eight minutes now.
When not to
- The meeting is a required ritual with political cost to skip. Note it; don't start a war in this hack.
- You are not invited as a decision-maker and declining is someone else's call.
- You already know the purpose and just dislike the meeting. That's a different conversation.
Do this (timer on)
- 1. Scan the next five business days. Pick two fuzzy holds.
- 2. For each: send a short agenda-request or decline with a written alternative (async update / shorter slot).
- 3. Update your calendar the moment they reply - or when the timer ends, decline the ones still blank.
- 4. Stop at two. Momentum over perfection.

Subject: Quick agenda for [Meeting] on [Date]?
Want to make [Meeting] useful. Can you send 3 bullets for what we need to decide or produce? If there's no decision, I'm happy to take an async note instead and free the time.
Decline + alternative
I can't make this hold useful without an agenda. I'll send a written update by [day] covering [topics]. If we still need a live decision, propose 15 minutes with a one-line goal.
After you send
If you prune every week and the same meeting types keep returning, capacity is a system problem. Map it with Operations Efficiency when the prune stops helping.
