Synthesize three interview notes into themes with one quote each
Interview notes pile up. Insights don't. Synthesis is the job: themes, one quote each, implications.
Interview notes pile up. Insights don't. Synthesis is the job: themes, one quote each, implications.
This hack: twenty minutes, three interviews, theme brief. Not a 40-page research shrine.
When to use it
- You have notes from at least three customer interviews.
- A product, marketing, or leadership decision needs the themes.
- You can spare twenty minutes while notes are fresh.
When not to
- You only have one interview. Don't pretend it's a pattern.
- Notes are too thin. Book follow-ups first.
- You're tempted to force a theme leadership wants. Don't.
Do this (timer on)
- 1. Paste three interview notes (redacted).
- 2. Cluster themes with quotes.
- 3. Add implications + open questions.
- 4. Share the one-pager with stakeholders.
Prompt (copy)
Synthesize these three interviews.
Output:
- 3-5 themes
- For each: one verbatim-ish quote, what it means, implication
- Contradictions
- Open questions
Do not invent quotes. Do not over-generalize to "all customers."
