Scaffold a change order from the new client ask
New asks show up mid-project dressed as "quick favors." Unpapered favors become scope fights.
New asks show up mid-project dressed as "quick favors." Unpapered favors become scope fights.
This hack: fifteen minutes, scaffold a change order from the new ask. Paper before work.
When to use it
- A client asked for something outside the signed scope.
- You can describe the ask in plain English.
- Work has not fully started on the new ask yet.
When not to
- The ask is clearly in-scope clarification. Document it; don't inflate.
- You've already delivered the free work. Decide goodwill vs invoice carefully offline.
- Legal must draft. Scaffold then hand to counsel.
Do this (timer on)
- 1. Write the ask, why it's out of scope, impact, options.
- 2. Run the prompt into a change-order scaffold.
- 3. Send for client confirmation before scheduling work.
Prompt (copy)
Scaffold a change order (ops draft, not legal final).
Include:
- Project reference
- New ask summary
- Why out of current SOW (cite bullets if provided)
- Impact on timeline / workload (qualitative, no fake hours %)
- Options: defer / replace / add via change order
- Ask for written approval
Tone: firm and collaborative.
Do not invent fees. Leave commercials as [HUMAN PRICING].
