Mark one zombie page to update or unpublish

Zombie pages keep ranking for jobs you no longer do. They confuse buyers and waste crawl attention.

Zombie pages keep ranking for jobs you no longer do. They confuse buyers and waste crawl attention.

This hack: ten minutes, mark one zombie to update or unpublish. Stop feeding zombies.

When to use it

  • You know a page that is outdated or off-offer.
  • You can decide update vs unpublish (or recommend).
  • CMS access exists.

When not to

  • SEO/legal owns the page and you don't. File a ticket with evidence.
  • You're deleting something that still converts without checking. Spot-check first.
  • The whole site needs a migration. Different project.

Do this (timer on)

  1. 1. Open the suspect page.
  2. 2. Note: last update, offer match, obvious wrongness.
  3. 3. Decide: update / unpublish / redirect candidate.
  4. 4. Log on a kill list with owner + date.

Prompt (copy)

Evaluate this page as a kill-list candidate.

Output:
- What job it claims to do
- Where it conflicts with our current offer (from my notes)
- Recommend: update / unpublish / redirect
- If update: 5 bullets to fix
- Risks of unpublishing
